![]() ![]() All N-model cars plus the Santa Cruz compact pickup truck from 2022 (pictured above) as well as 2021-2022 Sonata and Santa Fe models have been recalled, totaling 61,861 units.Hyundai confirms that six of its late-model vehicles are subject to a recall and sales stop, due to problems with the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.Packaging was frankly terrible, but it was a decent transmission away from being a class leader. The pre-refresh models even had really high quality interiors in SEL and higher trim. After all, the car rode and handled much nicer than a car of it's price, was comfortable, fuel efficient, and completely reliable (for me). If Ford had just put a normal 6 speed auto in it, people would love them. Maybe Ford could have heavily advertised the benefits of the fancy transmission and got the word out that it behaved differently than you'd expect, but that was probably a) too much work and b) a tacit admission that there's something unusual (and therefore 'wrong') to average low information driver. I agree that the Powershift was precisely the wrong choice for an appliance car owned by people who don't understand how normal cars work, let alone something semi-exotic like a DCT. It really was a car that came alive when operated as intended. After the new TCM was installed it was actually pretty smooth and quick, especially in sport mode. Before then you'd have to get really lucky to get snappy shifts and smooth launches, but it was serviceable. I genuinely liked mine, especially after the TCM was replaced (under warranty) at 72k miles. It was rushed and underengineered at launch, but it actually seems like the 20 models had enough of the bugs worked out to be (largely) trouble-free, which obviously was a day late and a dollar short, as Ford basically torpedoed any goodwill in the Focus name, and we will probably never again see a car sold as a Focus in the US. And if you can operate the car with Ford's intentions in mind, it's anywhere from bearable to.outright impressive, as it holds gears to redline on an on-ramp and downshifts instantly if you let off the throttle then get back on it. But if you understand what Ford was trying to do, which was make an AUTOMATED MANUAL with shifts snappier than a traditional six-speed auto, the transmission at least makes sense. ![]() Will my husband divorce me if I dehydrate tomatoes in his F-150 truck?ĭennis Collins, a Highway Accident Investigator at the National Transportation Safety BoardĬheck it out man - I'm never going to claim the Powershift was a great design or that it should have made its way into a car that was going to be primarily driven by college students, grandmas, and other people who don't know or even give a shit about cars.
